Will divorce happen now that the kids are back in school?

Have you been thinking about divorce all summer and simply putting it off? This is fairly common. Summertime is supposed to be fun for kids and it’s often busy for families. It just doesn’t seem like the right time to get divorced.

These are just some of the reasons that divorce filings do tend to go up as the children go back to school. You and your spouse may not have had a lot of time alone to talk about ending the marriage before. Now, if you both take a day off of work, you have the house to yourself. You can get everything figured out on your own and then break the news to the kids.

Avoiding the upcoming holidays

Another thing to keep in mind is that many parents want to avoid the fall holidays. No one wants to announce a divorce a few days before a family Thanksgiving celebration or move out on Christmas morning. This is why “Divorce Month” is January. Couples who decide to divorce during the holidays will usually do it in January.

If you already know that this is what you want, though, you have a window of time between the end of summer break and the beginning of the fall holidays. You may find it the perfect time to file, as so many people do. Working quickly can help you move toward the future you want in time to celebrate the new year with a new lease on life.

How do you get started?

If you have never been through a divorce before and you’re unsure where to begin, it’s wise to learn as much as you can about the process and what it entails. That way, you can make informed decisions at every stage of the process.
