Michigan fans of the show X-Files, particularly the fans of the fictitious character Agent Fox Mulder, may not want to believe that the high profile TV star, who played the character of Mulder, David Duchovny, has divorced his wife of 17 years, actress Tea Leoni. According to media reports, Duchovny filed for divorce earlier this year. The couple was already separated for at least three years. The reason that he cited when he filed for divorce was an irretrievable breakdown of their relationship.
The stars are parents of two children, a daughter who is 15-years-old and a younger son who is 12-years-old. In this case, both agreed that they will have joint legal custody of the children. Nonetheless, Leoni was granted primary physical custody of the children.
Under the terms of their divorce decree, the 54-year-old Duchonvy has agreed will pay Leoni about $40,000 a month in spousal support or alimony. Furthermore, since Leoni was granted physical custody of their two children, Duchovny was ordered to pay about $8,000 in child support payments every month. Additionally, he is also expected to cover the cost of his children’s education and their extracurricular activities.
In the case of the Duchovny and Leoni, the two actors, for the most part, were able to amicably resolve their issues, which is great. But, for many who are in the process of seeking a divorce, this may not be the case. Divorce elicits a number of issues which range from property division to child custody issues. The whole process can be intimidating, and it many may be unsure of how to approach or answer to a serving of divorce papers may want to talk with a family law attorney for more information.
