Debt affects your wallet and your relationships

Debt affects your wallet and your relationships

Quite a few Michigan residents are struggling to stay afloat financially. There are a number of reasons for this, and each individual’s debt story is unique to them. No matter how one got into debt, most people who find themselves struggling economically often find that their romantic lives suffer as well. At least, that is what a recently published article would have people believe.

Believe it or not, financial compatibility is a thing. When two people differ in their view about money, there is either no chance of striking up a romantic relationship or there is a significant chance that their relationship will last, at most, five years. Debt simply is a relationship killer.

According to the article, a recent study found that 72 percent of the respondents said that they would reconsider their relationship status with someone if they found out that individual has unsettled debts. Another study found that 38 percent of adults would flat out refuse to date someone who has poor credit. In other words, financial stability helps lead to relationship stability.

Is getting one’s financial situation in a better place going to guarantee that one’s love life will get better? No, of course not, but it certainly will not hurt to make some adjustments just for one’s own peace of mind and economic benefit. Michigan residents who have debt issues that they need resolved can turn to a bankruptcy law attorney for guidance on debt relief options and assistance pursuing the path best suited to their economic needs.
