Debt Relief Through Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
People who come into our Westland office to discuss bankruptcy are experiencing a mixture of embarrassment and apprehension – embarrassment because they feel somehow like they have failed by considering bankruptcy, and apprehension because they don’t know what to expect from the process. Most people have questions about what property they can keep and whether they will be able to obtain credit again after filing for bankruptcy.
Our Westland Chapter 7 bankruptcy attorneys are here to help. We focus on helping our clients stop garnishments, repossessions and foreclosures through Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We know that the vast majority of our bankruptcy clients are not “deadbeats” or “slackers;” the fact is, this is a difficult economy and more people than ever before are finding themselves buried under a mountain of debt.
When you work with our law firm, we will not judge you; we will treat you with dignity and respect and help you find the debt relief you need at a competitive price.
Helping You Preserve Your Assets
A common worry for people facing Chapter 7 bankruptcy is that they will lose everything. The feeling is that a Chapter 7 will discharge the outstanding debts, but the property will be lost in the process. This is simply not true.
- Retirements and pensions: In almost every case you get to keep your pension. The Bankruptcy Code allows us to exempt your Pension/Retirement accounts.
- Property exemptions: Bankruptcy Code allows for a great deal of personal property to be exempted from bankruptcy proceedings. A great deal of personal property exempted gives room for those few cases or items that won’t be exempt.
- Wages that have been garnished: Many people are surprised to find out that, in many cases, we can go back and recover wages that have been garnished up to 90 days before filing for bankruptcy. It is better to contact us early, so we can help you stop garnishments, foreclosures and repossessions, but if you have had your wages garnished, we might be able to get that money back.
“I left a much larger law firm and opened The Smith Law Offices, P.C., because I wanted to be able to work more closely with my clients and help people like you find freedom from serious debt. Let me help you.” – Samantha Smith, attorney at law
