Actress Demi Moore seeking spousal support

Hollywood fans in Michigan may find it interesting to learn that according to reports nearly three months after Actor Ashton Kutcher, who was 2012’s highest paid TV actor, filed for divorce, actress Demi Moore answered his divorce papers. She filed for dissolution of marriage as well and, is asking for spousal support from Kutcher who has an estimated income of approximately $24 million mainly due to his role in the TV show “Two and a Half Men”. Both cited irreconcilable differences in their divorce papers.

Apparently Demi was hoping to reach a financial settlement with Kutcher before filing her own papers for divorce, but he did not agree to her terms. Nevertheless, negotiations to reach a resolution in the best interest of both Demi and Kutcher are on-going.

Divorce is not an easy process for anyone. In the case of Demi and Kutcher there are no children, but some people may have to deal with child custody and support issues alongside property division and spousal support issues. In Michigan, whether spousal support is warranted or not depends on various factors such as the length of the marriage, the age and health of the parties, and earning capacity of the parties at the time of divorce. Even though courts use a guideline to determine spousal support, the amount is negotiable.

For anyone in the process of a divorce where spousal support and its amount are at issue, should contact an experienced family law attorney to understand the nuances of spousal support and divorce related issues. It is important to ensure that spousal support is not greater than necessary and, also that the spouse receiving it is not short-changed.
