Fans in Michigan familiar with actor Jeremy Renner may find it interesting to learn that the star is involved in an acrimonious and contentious divorce with his Canadian model wife. Though Renner claims that the issues in his divorce are fairly straightforward and that he does not want to get involved in a lengthy divorce battle, his estranged wife disagrees.
The couple met approximately four or five years ago, and had a child together in 2013. Presently, their daughter is about two years old. They then married each other about a year ago. In November of 2014, however, Renner’s wife filed divorce paperwork noting irreconcilable differences. In her divorce filing she indicated that the couple has a prenuptial agreement in place, but alleged that it be invalidated because it was fraudulent.
Though Renner and his soon to be ex-wife have shared joint custody of their young daughter since their December 2014 separation, and Renner is interested in a joint custody arrangement, Renner’s ex-wife is seeking sole physical custody and has cited Renner’s home as being unsafe for their daughter. Specifically, she notes that Renner has a gun collection and that his pool is not fenced. Even though Renner has given his ex-wife child support since their separation, she is seeking additional child support and attorney fees. The actor has expressed concern that his ex-wife would leave the country and return to Canada with his daughter if she were to get custody.
Renner’s divorce is a good example of the kinds of issues that may surface during a family law proceeding. Though every divorce proceeding is unique, generally a couple with children undergoing a divorce must tackle issues surrounding child custody and child support. The matter can turn complex pretty quickly, particularly if one parent is interested in relocation. The issues that arise during a divorce proceeding may overwhelm a person. Thus, it is important early on to consult with an experienced family law attorney.
