Driving while under the influence of alcohol may put individuals at risk of hurting themselves and others. In addition, those who are observed driving on Michigan roads while impaired may be charged with DUI. While the penalties for a DUI may be significant, it is typically in a person’s best interest to cooperate with the officer who has initiated a traffic stop. Individuals who are charged with DUI may not necessarily be guilty of the crime. An attorney may assert that a person was experiencing a medical condition that mimicked the physical effects of alcohol impairment. An attorney may also argue that a person was tricked into consuming alcohol or otherwise had no intent of driving while impaired. This may be enough to have a drunk driving charge dismissed or reduced to a lesser offense.
