Getting more information when you have questions about divorce

People who are thinking about getting a divorce may think that they can navigate the family court system themselves without legal representation. Although it is true that some people may be able to represent themselves in simple family law proceedings, many others may not be able to due to a variety of different reasons, such as not being able to understand legal terms and legal documents.

Getting the right information during divorce proceedings and other related family law matters can be helpful. At the Smith Law Offices, P.C., we attempt to work closely with clients in order to reach a solution that is in the best interested of all involved.

Our office has handled various cases ranging from annulments to uncontested divorces. And, although many people may not immediately see a distinction between a regular divorce and military divorce, they are very different with very strict rules applying to service members. We are experienced in handling such cases and will work closely with the other party to attempt to reach a resolution.

For a couple with minor children, property and other assets, getting a divorce can get complex. Issues of parenting time, child custody and property division will have to be addressed. Additionally, depending on what the final custody arrangement is, child support will also have to be determined. In some cases, if paternity is in question, a paternity determination will have to be made.

Finally, most people going through a divorce may think that it is about closing an old chapter and opening a new one, and although this is true in some cases, in most cases, particularly those cases with minor children, sometimes in the best interest of the child a modification to the child custody arrangement or child support agreement may have to be made in the future.
