Michigan man arrested for child support arrears

According to the Minot Police, a 41-year-old man was arrested by authorities for having nearly $100,000 in child support arrears. Michigan residents will find it interesting to learn that the 41-year-old man was pulled over by the police for having an expired registration. Apparently as part of the traffic stop, the officer who pulled the man over conducted a warrant check to see if there were any active warrants.

The challenges of child custody disputes

Most people in the U.S. are likely aware that nearly 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce. Though no one wants to be part of this statistic, separations and divorces routinely occur. In the best interest of all involved, sometimes divorce is the best step a couple can take. However, particularly when it comes to children and child custody, sometimes divorce proceedings can get complicated.

Understanding the child support formula

Regardless of whether a couple was unmarried with children or divorced with children, at least one parent -- typically the non-custodial parent -- will be required to pay the custodial parent child support for the upbringing of their child. Generally, each state has its own child support guidelines which are routinely followed by the family court system to determine the non-custodial parent's monthly child support obligation.

Actor John Cleese must make hefty alimony payments

According to media reports, actor and comedian John Cleese opened up about his divorce and spousal support obligations in a recent interview. Michigan residents familiar with Monty Python and the 74-year-old Cleese will find it interesting to learn that, according to him, despite his ripe old age, the actor apparently still has to work tirelessly in order to pay his ex-wife alimony.
